HMAS BENALLA (A04)
HMAS Benalla
Summary
HMAS Benalla (A04) is one of four purpose built Paluma-Class Survey Motor Launches operated by the Royal Australian Navy (RAN), and sister ship to the HMAS Shepparton.
With the motto ‘We Lead Others Follow’ HMAS Benalla like all other procured Paluma-Class vessels were manufactured by Eglo Engineering, Adelaide.
The (RAN) used Paluma-Class Vessels for Hydrographic Surveys in shallow waters around Northern Australia, primarily in the Great Barrier Reef.
- Twin hulls provide good stability in heavy conditions
- Steel hull with an aluminium super structure
- Good living space below the main deck
- The Catamaran Hill sits well out of the water only drawing 2.2 metres - favourable in shallowing and reef waters where the ships were required to operate.
